DEL MAR PICKS

DEL MAR THOROUGHBRED CLUB

Our lead handicapper Eddie "The Hat" is a nationally recognized Southern California based public handicapper who has been a serious player on his own for over 45 years.

Over the past 30 seasons, he’s had an unmatched rate of success in both winners selected and return on investment by searching for value in his selections.

Eddie began his handicapping career early in life while picnicking in the infield at Santa Anita each Sunday afternoon with family and  friends. As a young racing tout he'd often share his Santa Anita picks with friends and family in the mid-1970's while attending junior high school in the San  Gabriel Valley, minutes away from Santa Anita race track. He could often  be seen carrying a Racing Form in his back pocket to classes and  reading the "sheets" at lunch time.

If you are wagering on Del Mar from your home or office you shouldn't be without our Del Mar selections. Our horse racing selections can make you money at the races and make your race day more enjoyable. Give our horse racing handicappers the opportunity to make you money today at

DEL MAR NEWS AND NOTES

GAME WARRIOR UPSETS IN OPENING DAY OCEANSIDE

Jethorse’s Game Warrior, a colt by the Candy Ride stallion Game Winner, beat winners for the first time in his 11th start and he picked a good day and a good spot to do it – Opening Day at Del Mar in the Oceanside Stakes.

The stretch runner got an excellent ride from Hector Berrios, who saved ground for most of the one-mile trip on the Del Mar lawn, then withstood a bumping incident near the eighth pole before going on to capture the $102,500 stakes by half a length.

Peter Miller trains the winner who picked up a check for $60,000 for his efforts. He returned $40.60 for $2.

Finishing second was the 1-2 race favorite, Little Red Feather Racing or Madaket Stables’ Iron Man Cal, who stumbled badly at the break and was far back early, then came running late on the rail to nearly earn the top prize.

Finishing third, a neck farther back, was CYBT, McLean Racing Stables, Nentwig, Pagano and Peskoff’s Lyle The Crocodile.

Del Mar’s Opening Day attendance was 21,209, considered a sellout as the track limits attendance to allow for a more comfortable experience for its paying crowd. A series of longshots throughout the afternoon paved the way to a $127,247 Pick Six carryover that will be up for grabs on the Saturday card at the shore oval.
